1 - Lithuania

4 - Poland

The train in 18 identifies as Croatian. So, think of an obvious place .... Zagreb? Looks like it!

From the small amount of writing visible, I think 7 must be Slovenia, a country I have never visited but is definitely high up on my intend to list.

It is - and a favourite country of mine. Planning to be going that way in 2026.

27. Northern Ireland, and with an Enterprise train stopped in the platform that narrows it down to Newry, Portadown or Belfast. By process of elimination, it can’t be either of the first two, and it’s not Grand Central in Belfast, so I’ll say Belfast Central (before it was closed)

Correct - now known as Lanyon Place

Since the usual 24-hour rule appears to have been relaxed for today’s quiz, I shall take the liberty of offering 12. Manulla Junction, Republic of Ireland

You are correct - in the location, the country and the relaxation.   We are not going to run out of places to have identified even if you identify two or three (more).

Yes, I fear that this large batch are a big ask; the one-per-country limit is not much help and anyway a lot of the trains have indicative writing on them. Getting to closer than what country will still call for extra knowledge or inspiration, in most cases. But these -
8. Tønder, Denmark
19. Place Fort la Tour, New Brunswick, Canada
have the place written on them, if you peer closely enough.

both correct.   Tonder was supposed to catch you out too, as that's the international train service run from Germany into Denmark that's shown on the picture.

I am happy to confirm answers that are just the country ... half mark for a correct answer.

Edit applied to my York entry....

As a Lancastrian, I appreciate the independent attitudes and aspirations of those east of the Penines and north of the Humber and Aire.  However, for this quiz I have treated that area as a part of England.

14 - although I am currently on a potential hat-trick of wrong conclusions, I'm going to put Rotterdam Centraal forward for this one.

There's one or two more where I think I have add idea....

You have a correct country, but it's not one of the biggest cities - a place with a population only slightly higher than Bath.   In the run up to Christmas, with 30 places each of which has two levels of answers, please feel free to post some further ones.

Kircaldy, York and Barry identified correctly - though no-one told me Scotland. England and Wales.   France correctly identiied and, yes,  Perigueux.    And Budapest, Hungary and Regau in Portugal.

we want to be tidied up and at the station by 23:55 on Christmas Eve in time for 1X01

I had a quick look at 1X01's schedule on RTT and the passenger stations that stood out to me as having variations on the standard calling pattern are: Winslow, a nameless station between London Fenchurch Street and Barking, a nameless station between Elsenham and Bishops Stortford, Altnabreac, and Aberdare, presumably for various reasons.

I was reassured to see that Naughty Kid is due to receive their usual present.

Sorry Grahame,  can you clarify please,  are you looking for the precise  location or just the country for each photo?

I'm happy with either / both - some of the locations within the countries are very difficult questions

Carlisle and Settle - AQ23
Posted by grahame at 06:42, 23rd December 2025

I was planning to do "Home and Away" pictures for the last two Advent days. However, the home clues are going to be easy and solved in a day, and I suspect the away ones many take longer that 24 hours, and of course we want to be tidied up and at the station by 23:55 on Christmas Eve in time for 1X01.

So here you are - I have been through the pictures on my camera and found no less than 30 with transport links, each from a different country.  Tomorrow there will be transport pictures from our own area.  I've called the quiz "Carlisle and Settle" because we're running in the opposite order to convention.
